Get a Head Start on College While Still in High School
Barton High School is proud to offer eligible students the opportunity to participate in our Concurrent Credit Program in partnership with Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas (PCCUA). Through concurrent credit, students can earn both high school and college credit at the same time, helping them get a jump start on their college education while saving money and gaining valuable experience.
What is Concurrent Credit?
Concurrent credit allows high school students to enroll in college-level courses and receive credit toward both their high school graduation requirements and a future college degree. Students attend classes at PCCUA during the school day, following a carefully planned schedule that fits their chosen pathway and high school responsibilities. This program is an excellent way for motivated students to accelerate their academic progress and experience the rigor of college coursework in a supportive environment.
Eligibility Requirements:
Open to 10thβ12th grade Barton High School students.
Students must have taken either the ACT or Accuplacer test to qualify.
Students must commit to following an approved plan of study in one of the following pathways offered through PCCUA:
General Education (2-Year Degree Plan)
Welding (CTE Pathway)
Medical Professions (CTE Pathway)
Other Concurrent Credit Options:
Students may also take other concurrent credit courses through PCCUA online only, provided they maintain a full schedule at Barton High School.
Program Expectations:
Students must stay enrolled in all concurrent classes after the first two weeks of the semester, regardless of performance.
Parents will be responsible for the course cost if a student drops after the two-week deadline. The cost is $77 per credit hour, with most courses totaling $231.
Students who receive more than one 'F' in concurrent courses during a school year will be dismissed from the program and become ineligible for future concurrent enrollment while at Barton.
Transportation and Meals:
Barton High School will provide transportation to and from PCCUA for all concurrent credit students.
Students will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost while participating in the program.
Students may also purchase their own lunch from the PCCUA cafΓ© if they choose, at their own expense.
Why Participate?
Participating in concurrent credit can help students:
Reduce the time and money needed to complete a college degree.
Build academic confidence and skills before entering college full-time.
Explore career interests through specialized pathways like Welding or Medical Professions.
